Grim Trials Luxuria Boss Guide

How to beat Luxuria in Grim Trials with positioning, dual-weapon pressure, practice steps, build preparation and the Virtue of Chastity achievement.

Grim Trials key art used for the Luxuria boss guide

Luxuria is one of the seven confirmed Sinful Soul bosses in Grim Trials, and defeating Luxuria unlocks the Steam achievement “Virtue of Chastity.” Public sources confirm the boss identity and achievement, but they do not currently provide enough reliable detail to publish exact health values, phase thresholds, named attacks, fixed drops or a definitive “best build.” This guide therefore focuses on a current-version, evidence-first approach: preparation, positioning, dual-weapon pressure, reading punish windows and avoiding assumptions taken from theme or achievement names.

Verification status: checked against the released Steam version and achievement list on September 6, 2026. Exact Luxuria attack names, HP values, phase percentages and reward tables are intentionally omitted unless independently verified.

Who is Luxuria in Grim Trials?

Luxuria is one of the seven sacrilegious bosses / Sinful Souls that Avelin must face during the Grim Trials. Steam’s released achievement list pairs Luxuria with Virtue of Chastity, whose requirement is simply “Beat Luxuria.” That achievement is the strongest current public confirmation of the boss name and completion condition.

The game’s wider story frames these encounters as part of Avelin’s path through Purification and the underworld. The official Steam description confirms seven major bosses inside the hex-grid Trial Grounds, but it does not publish a complete mechanical breakdown for each one. For that reason, this page does not turn the Latin sin name “Luxuria” into invented boss mechanics. The theme may inform the character design or story symbolism, but it is not evidence for charm effects, seduction mechanics, debuffs, summons, arena phases or any other specific combat behavior.

How to prepare before fighting Luxuria

Preparation in Grim Trials starts before the boss room. The official game description confirms that players combine crafted equipment, Skill Tree choices and randomized Blessings to build each run. A boss attempt should therefore be treated as the final test of the setup you assembled on the way through the Trial Grounds.

Choose a build that still functions when melee access is unsafe. The combat system is built around a melee weapon and crossbow working together. A strong setup should not collapse just because you have to disengage for a few seconds. If your primary damage comes from melee, keep a reliable ranged option active so repositioning does not become dead time. If your build leans heavily on ranged damage, make sure you can still punish close-range openings without waiting on every cooldown.

Prioritize consistency over a perfect damage screenshot. Bosses punish fragile builds much harder than ordinary rooms because mistakes repeat over a longer encounter. Defensive value, movement comfort, attack speed, cooldown flow and reliable damage windows can be more useful than one highly conditional bonus. The August balance updates adjusted gear values, ranged combinations and ranged cooldowns, so older pre-patch “best build” claims should be treated cautiously.

Luxuria positioning strategy

Without verified attack-by-attack documentation, the safest way to learn Luxuria is to make positioning your first objective. Grim Trials uses compact combat spaces where dodging into the wrong lane can be more dangerous than the original attack. Version v1.0.20260829 reduced several Trial Ground obstacles that could interrupt dashes and improved melee attack telegraphing, but good movement still depends on choosing your destination before you commit to the dodge.

At the start of the fight, spend the opening moments identifying how much free space you actually have. Avoid planting yourself against the edge of the arena unless you already know the next pattern. Keeping a central or flexible lane gives you more escape angles, lets you react to overlapping pressure and makes crossbow shots easier to fit between movement inputs.

A useful learning rule is to dodge through a plan, not simply away from danger. Before pressing dash, know where you want to finish. If you repeatedly dodge toward the same side of the arena, you can accidentally compress your own movement space. This matters even more when a boss encounter introduces persistent hazards, adds or overlapping effects, although this guide does not claim Luxuria uses any specific one of those mechanics without verification.

How to use melee and crossbow together

The official Steam page explicitly describes Grim Trials as rewarding clever use of dual-wielded weapons. Against Luxuria, that means you should think in terms of pressure windows rather than “melee phase” and “ranged phase.” When the boss is exposed and the arena is safe, step in for a short melee punish. When the next pattern begins or the approach becomes risky, disengage and continue contributing with the crossbow.

New players often make one of two mistakes. The first is staying in melee because a combo has already started. The second is retreating so far that they stop doing damage completely. A better rhythm is short commitment, clean exit, ranged pressure, then re-entry when another safe window appears. You do not need to force the longest combo every time. Early attempts should be about learning which openings are genuinely long enough for your weapon’s animation commitment.

If you are unsure, use a two-step test. On the first safe opening, land only one or two attacks and leave. On the next repetition of the same pattern, extend the punish slightly. This lets you map the encounter without throwing away the run for information you could have learned safely.

Luxuria practice loop

For a first clear, separate the encounter into three jobs: preserve space, confirm a recovery, and convert only verified openings into melee damage. If any one of those jobs is unclear, stay at lower commitment and let the crossbow maintain pressure.

  • Before a dodge: choose the landing area first.
  • After a pattern resolves: test a short punish before extending it.
  • While approach is unsafe: keep ranged pressure active instead of doing nothing.
  • After taking a hit: reset your position before trying to “win back” the lost damage immediately.

The released full-fight video linked below is useful for studying encounter pacing, but this page still avoids claiming exact phase counts or weaknesses that are not documented by reliable sources.

Skill Tree and Blessing priorities

There is no verified single “Luxuria build” that this guide can responsibly recommend. What can be confirmed is the structure of Grim Trials progression: skills are chosen through the Skill Tree at the start of a run, crafted equipment provides your baseline gear, and randomized Blessings reshape the build during the run.

For a first clear, favor combinations that improve reliability. Movement speed, attack speed, survivability, cooldown comfort or effects that support the weapon pattern you already understand are usually easier to use than a synergy that only performs when several conditions line up perfectly. Once Luxuria’s specific attack windows are familiar, you can afford to trade some safety for higher burst damage.

Remember that Blessings are randomized. A guide that assumes one exact god or one exact sequence of Blessings will not help every run. Build around what the game actually gives you, not around an idealized setup from one successful attempt.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not infer mechanics from the boss name. Luxuria corresponds to lust in the traditional seven-sins framework, but that does not prove any particular combat mechanic. Treat the theme as story context, not a substitute for tested encounter data.

Do not copy old ranged builds blindly. The August 24 update changed ranged attack combinations and ranged weapon cooldowns and also adjusted the Anubis Blessing. If a video predates that patch, the exact timing or damage loop may no longer match the current build.

Do not spend every opening on the longest combo. Boss learning is faster when you separate safe damage from greedy damage. A short punish that preserves health is more valuable than a long string that repeatedly ends in a trade.

Do not ignore the boss-room cue. The August 29 update made boss-room entry clearer. Use that signal to check your health, build state and intended weapon rhythm before crossing into the encounter.

How to unlock Virtue of Chastity

Steam lists Virtue of Chastity with the requirement Beat Luxuria. No extra challenge condition is stated in the achievement description. You do not need to infer a no-hit condition, special weapon requirement or relationship prerequisite from the title. The achievement is a straightforward boss-defeat objective based on the published description.

Steam currently lists 29 achievements in total, and Luxuria is one of seven bosses with a dedicated Virtue achievement. In the same set, Acedia maps to Diligence, Avaritia to Charity, Gula to Temperance, Ira to Patience, Invidia to Kindness and Superbia to Humility.
