Grim Trials recipes determine which weapons, armor and consumables Avelin can craft at the Academy. The public demo confirms that side quests can unlock recipes for new weapons, armor and potions, but the complete launch recipe list and final ingredient counts are not yet public.

Confirmed recipe categories
| Category | What is confirmed | Launch database plan |
|---|---|---|
| Weapons | The demo says side quests can award recipes for new weapons; the full game confirms customizable scythes and crossbows. | Recipe source, ingredients, weapon effect, stats, build links. |
| Armor / gear | Armor recipes are explicitly part of the demo side-quest rewards. | Slot, stats, effect, ingredients, unlock, synergy. |
| Potions / consumables | Potion recipes are explicitly confirmed; current demo balance caps potions at 12 per slot per run. | Effect, quantity behavior, ingredients, unlock and use case. |
How do you unlock recipes?
The clearest confirmed method is completing side quests at the Academy. The demo description says a couple of side quests grant recipes, which makes quest progress part of equipment progression rather than purely optional story content.
The full game may contain additional recipe sources. Until those are verified, this guide will not claim that every recipe comes from a side quest or guess at NPC requirements.
Why ingredient lists need launch verification
The February 2026 demo update explicitly says crafting recipe ingredients were tweaked for smoother progression. That makes older screenshots useful for understanding interface structure but unreliable for SEO pages that promise exact material counts.
Our launch rule is simple: ingredient tables will be published only after the recipe has been checked in the current build. When a patch changes a recipe, the page should show a new “Last verified” date rather than silently leaving the old values in place.
What each recipe page will contain
- Recipe name and item category
- How to unlock the recipe, including quest or mentor if verified
- Required materials and quantities
- Item stats and effect text
- What the crafted item is good for
- Related Skill Tree nodes, Blessings and builds
- Game version and last verification date
What should you craft first?
Before the full recipe list is known, there is no universal “first craft” answer. The better rule is to craft toward the problem your runs repeatedly expose. If your damage drops whenever you must leave melee range, look at ranged equipment. If survivability is the blocker, compare armor or consumables. If a new recipe unlocks an effect that directly supports your Skill Tree route, that can be more valuable than a generic stat increase.
