Materials are one of Grim Trials’ main persistent rewards: Avelin gathers them in battle and keeps them even after dying. They are then used with Academy mentors to craft weapons, armor and consumables, making resource collection meaningful even on failed runs.

Why materials matter
Because materials survive death, a run can be productive even if Avelin never reaches the next boss. This reduces the pressure to treat every attempt as a win-or-nothing push and supports a deliberate farming strategy when you are close to a useful craft.
When should you spend materials?
Before launch, the safest principle is to spend toward a clear progression goal rather than a guessed meta. If a new recipe supports your current weapon preference or solves a survivability problem, it can be a better investment than hoarding for an unconfirmed late-game item.
Launch-day material database
The final material pages should record source enemies or rooms, biome/location, drop conditions, recipe usage, quantity needed, and whether the resource is farmable after a boss has been cleared. Recipe ingredient values changed during the demo, so old screenshots will be checked against the release build.
