Avaritia is one of the seven Sinful Soul bosses in Grim Trials, and defeating Avaritia unlocks the Virtue of Charity achievement. Compared with Acedia, the public documentation for Avaritia’s exact attack names, phase thresholds and damage values is limited. The safest current strategy is therefore to enter with a coherent melee-plus-crossbow build, preserve open movement lanes, learn the encounter before committing to long melee strings, and punish only the openings you can read consistently.

Who is Avaritia in Grim Trials?
Avaritia is part of the seven-boss structure at the center of Avelin’s Purification. The released achievement list confirms the boss by name and pairs the victory with Virtue of Charity. Steam’s store description establishes the broader structure: Avelin enters hex-grid Trial Grounds containing monsters, traps, Sinful Souls and seven major bosses while building around crafted equipment, a Skill Tree and randomized Blessings.
That context matters because a boss attempt is not isolated from the rest of a run. How much health and momentum you preserve before Avaritia, which equipment you crafted, how your Soul Rune and Skill Tree choices support your preferred weapon, and which Blessings appeared during the run can all affect the fight. A good Avaritia plan starts before the boss room rather than with a single supposed “best weapon.”
What is actually confirmed about the fight?
Current public evidence is much thinner for Avaritia than for Acedia. A public Grim Trials preview page includes a screenshot explicitly captioned as the player fighting Avaritia in a circular arena. The image shows the boss encounter in progress with spell or attack effects visible around the combatants. That is useful visual confirmation, but a screenshot cannot responsibly establish exact attack names, damage, cooldowns or phase rules.
The achievement evidence is stronger. Steam lists Virtue of Charity — Beat Avaritia, and Xbox and PlayStation achievement/trophy databases report the same requirement. A post-launch trophy guide also marks the victory as story-related. Those sources are enough to identify the boss and its completion objective, but not enough to justify a fabricated frame-by-frame moveset. This page will be expanded when current gameplay evidence supports more precise mechanical claims.
How to approach Avaritia
Start the encounter by reading rather than racing. Grim Trials rewards aggressive play, but bosses punish attacks that lock Avelin into the wrong position. Use the opening moments to understand where Avaritia is placing pressure and which parts of the arena remain safe. If you do not yet recognize a pattern, one missed damage opportunity is usually cheaper than taking a hit while committed to a long melee sequence.
Keep your crossbow involved. The official game description emphasizes clever swapping between melee and ranged combat. When Avaritia is unsafe to approach, ranged attacks let you maintain pressure while moving. When a clear opening appears, transition into your melee weapon for stronger close-range commitment, then disengage before the next dangerous sequence develops. The goal is not to stay permanently at one range; it is to make each range cover the other’s weak moments.
Protect movement space. Do not voluntarily trap yourself against the edge of the arena just to finish an attack chain. Grim Trials’ post-launch movement improvements reduced cases where Trial Ground obstacles interrupted dashes, but positioning still determines whether your next dodge has somewhere useful to go. Move with a purpose: create a lane first, attack second.
Avaritia first-clear practice plan
A full released-game Avaritia fight is now publicly available, which makes it possible to study the encounter without inventing a named moveset. Use the footage as a visual reference, not as proof of hidden frame data or fixed phase thresholds.
- Watch spacing before commitment. Enter your own attempt with an open escape lane instead of hugging the arena edge.
- Watch visible recovery moments. Test those windows with one short melee confirm before risking a full string.
- Watch when the player returns to crossbow pressure. Use ranged attacks whenever approach timing is still uncertain.
- Watch where every dodge finishes. Judge a dodge by the position it creates, not only by whether it avoids one hit.
The useful takeaway is the decision loop: read → create space → short punish → reset. If the same opening proves safe repeatedly, extend the punish later. That is more reliable than copying exact timings from one recorded build.
Avaritia build preparation
There is not enough verified evidence to name one universal “best Avaritia build,” and the game’s randomized Blessings make that kind of claim especially fragile. Instead, build around three jobs. First, you need dependable damage that does not require a perfect Blessing roll. Second, you need a ranged option for periods when closing distance is unsafe. Third, your Skill Tree and equipment should support the same combat plan rather than splitting resources across unrelated bonuses.
If your build is melee-focused, use the crossbow as a bridge between punish windows rather than ignoring it. If your build leans heavily into ranged damage, remember that the August 24 post-launch balance update changed several ranged attack combinations, ranged weapon cooldowns and the Anubis Blessing. Pre-patch ranged footage can therefore misrepresent how quickly some combinations cycle today. See the Crossbow Guide and Combat Guide for the current patch context.
Common mistakes against Avaritia
- Copying an unsourced moveset list. Avaritia has less public mechanical documentation than Acedia. Treat precise numbers and named patterns cautiously unless they are demonstrated in current gameplay.
- Overcommitting to melee. A boss opening is useful only if you can exit safely afterward. Short, repeatable punish windows are better than trading damage.
- Forgetting the crossbow. Ranged pressure is part of Grim Trials’ intended dual-weapon system and keeps unsafe melee periods productive.
- Building around one Blessing before the run gives it to you. Blessings are randomized. Your permanent equipment and Skill Tree should create a functional baseline first.
- Entering the boss room without checking your state. The current game gives a clearer boss-room visual cue. Use that warning to assess health, resources and your actual build before crossing into the encounter.
Avaritia and repeat Trial Ground runs
A useful post-launch detail comes from the community trophy route for The Untouchable, which requires completing a Trial Ground run without taking damage. The guide recommends returning later to the first Trial section described there as “Tierra de Avaritia” / Land of Avaritia, noting that bosses do not reappear when that section is repeated. This is third-party completion guidance rather than an official mechanic description, so treat it as a route observation rather than a universal rule for every mode or future patch.
For progression, the practical implication is that defeating Avaritia is not only a one-time combat milestone. Returning to earlier Trial content after your permanent upgrades improve can also provide a lower-pressure environment for completion goals and build testing. For broader permanent progression, see the Progression Guide.
How to unlock Virtue of Charity
The requirement is straightforward: beat Avaritia. Steam’s released achievement list confirms the objective, and XboxAchievements reports the same condition. You do not need to infer a special challenge condition from the achievement name. “Charity” is the Virtue paired with Avaritia in the game’s boss achievement naming scheme.
Current Avaritia full-fight reference
A released-game full Avaritia boss fight from Final Boss Project is now available on YouTube. It is useful for seeing arena scale, player spacing and the complete encounter flow. It is not treated here as an authoritative source for exact damage values, frame counts, guaranteed phase thresholds or a universal best build.

Avaritia FAQ
What achievement do you get for beating Avaritia?
Defeating Avaritia unlocks Virtue of Charity.
Is Avaritia one of the seven main bosses?
Yes. Avaritia is one of the seven named Sinful Soul bosses confirmed by the released achievement and trophy lists.
What is the best weapon for Avaritia?
There is no sufficiently verified universal best weapon recommendation. Use a melee weapon you can control reliably, keep your crossbow active during unsafe approach windows, and build equipment, Skill Tree choices and Blessings around a coherent plan.
Does Avaritia have a confirmed phase count?
This guide does not publish a phase count because the currently reviewed reliable sources do not document one clearly enough. It will be added when supported by current-version gameplay evidence.
