Grim Trials System Requirements: Minimum & Recommended PC Specs

Grim Trials requires Windows 10 or 11, 8 GB RAM and 7 GB of available storage at minimum. Grim Trials PC requirements

Those are the developer-published storefront requirements. They are useful as a compatibility baseline, but they do not state a guaranteed resolution, frame rate, graphics preset or laptop power target. This guide therefore avoids turning the minimum and recommended labels into unsupported claims such as “1080p 60 FPS” or “high settings.” If Glory Jam publishes a performance target later, that can be added separately.

What is the difference between minimum and recommended?

The minimum tier tells you the lowest current hardware class the developer lists for the released PC version. Meeting it is a better sign than falling below it, but it should not be read as a universal performance guarantee. PC results can still vary with laptop power limits, background applications, thermal throttling, drivers and the exact implementation of a component.

The recommended tier gives more headroom in every major performance category that changes between the two columns. Memory doubles from 8 GB to 16 GB. The CPU target moves from the i5-8400 / Ryzen 3 3100 class to i5-10400 / Ryzen 5 3600. The dedicated-GPU target moves to GTX 1660 6 GB or RX 6600 8 GB. If you are choosing between two PCs specifically for Grim Trials, the recommended column is the more conservative target.

Notice what does not change: both tiers require Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 11 and 7 GB of available storage, and both carry the same SSD recommendation. You do not need to interpret the recommended column as requiring a different operating system or more disk capacity.

CPU: is your processor enough?

Steam names the Intel Core i5-8400 and Ryzen 3 3100 as minimum references. On the recommended side it names the Core i5-10400 and Ryzen 5 3600. The safest way to compare an unlisted processor is to look at its broad generation and real-world CPU class rather than only comparing the “i5” or “Ryzen 5” badge. A newer low-power laptop chip and an older desktop chip with the same family label can behave very differently.

If your processor is clearly below both named minimum references, the official requirement table gives no basis for promising good performance. The minimum GPU list is unusually broad. Steam names three dedicated-GPU options — GTX 1060 3 GB, GTX 1650 4 GB and RX 580 4 GB — and also explicitly lists Intel Iris Xe Graphics. That means Iris Xe is not something this wiki is guessing from user reports; it is present in the current official minimum specification.

However, “Intel Iris Xe” covers systems with different memory layouts, CPU power limits and cooling. Integrated graphics uses system memory rather than carrying dedicated VRAM in the same way as the discrete cards listed beside it. A laptop with one memory channel, aggressive power saving or poor cooling may not behave like another Iris Xe laptop. The official listing confirms the graphics family as a minimum option; it does not promise identical results across every Iris Xe machine.

The recommended GPU tier is clearer: GTX 1660 6 GB or RX 6600 8 GB. If your graphics card sits well above those models, the Steam table does not impose an additional higher tier. If it sits below the minimum group, you are outside the published baseline and should not rely on an unsupported “it will probably run” claim.

Do you need 16 GB of RAM?

No — 16 GB is recommended, not the published minimum. Steam lists 8 GB RAM as minimum. That distinction matters for older laptops and budget PCs. An 8 GB system meets the stated memory floor, but Windows, browsers, launchers and background applications also consume memory. Closing unnecessary background software is sensible on a system that only meets the minimum.

If you are buying or upgrading a PC rather than testing an existing one, 16 GB aligns with the developer's recommended tier and gives the operating system more room alongside the game. This is practical headroom, not evidence that Grim Trials itself always consumes a specific amount of RAM.

How much storage does Grim Trials need?

Steam currently lists 7 GB available space for both minimum and recommended configurations. Treat that as the storefront installation requirement, not as a promise that every download, patch or temporary update operation will always use exactly 7 GB.

Game platforms can need extra working space while applying updates, and Windows itself also needs free disk space to operate comfortably. Leaving some margin above the listed 7 GB is therefore more practical than filling a drive until exactly 7 GB remains. The Steam number also should not be confused with console download sizes: Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox package sizes are platform-specific and can differ from the PC requirement.

Is an SSD required?

The current Steam requirement block does not state a target FPS, resolution or graphics preset. For that reason, this wiki will not attach invented labels such as “minimum = 720p/30” or “recommended = 1080p/60.” Those numbers would look useful but would not be sourced.

When comparing performance reports from players or videos, check the hardware, game version, resolution and settings used. A patch can also affect performance. For official compatibility decisions, the current Steam requirement table remains the primary source.
